The Munchkin cat or Sausage cat breed is a medium-sized cat with extremely short legs and a long spine. Munchkin cat movement is described as being like that of a ferret, so it has no feline grace of longer-legged cats. Munchkin has a thick body with a well-rounded chest. Both varieties have plush, all-weather coats with a silky appearance. The longhair Munchkin has a plumed tail.

COAT AND COLOR: They may be shorthaired with a medium-length plush coat or longhaired with a Silky Coat. They have a combination of color or pattern know as White, Fawn, Chocolate, Seal, Lilac, Blue, Red Cream Tortie. When you see the Munchkin moving at high speed, cornering around your dining room table, you immediately drop any preconception that this is a slow or laid-back cat. Instead, They are an energetic extrovert, ready and willing to play with kids, other cats, and friendly dogs.
Munchkin cats are regular domestic cats with short legs due to a natural genetic mutation. While they have been around for decades, munchkins have only recently been accepted as a breed by The International Cat Association (TICA).

The Male Weight up to 6 – 9 pounds while the female weighs up to 5 – 8 pounds. They have a Life span of 10-15 years.

Munchkin cat mutation was discovered in America in 1983. It was named after the little people in The Wizard of Oz. Like the Munchkin cat, shortlegged cats were reported in England in the 1930s and in Russia in the 1950s, but these breeds were not perpetuated. This breed is not recognized in the UK by the primary UK cat fancy association.

Munchkin cats are sweet and outgoing. Their curiosity and playfulness continue well into adulthood. The Munchkin cat breed is sociable and enjoys the company. They can be taught to play fetch and to obey voice commands. While Munchkin cats can leap on to countertops, many prefer to find an easier way up intelligently. They can also run fast, despite their short legs.

This breed's short leggedness is a deformity linked to bone and spinal problems, so all cat associations have not welcomed it. Dog breeds with similar conformation are known to have problems with arthritis, and it is feared that some will occur in the Munchkin cat breed. As with all cats, Munchkins need vaccinations, parasite control, and annual veterinary health checks.

Every cat is unique, and each has their particular likes, dislikes, and needs when it comes to food. However, cats are carnivores, and every cat must obtain 41 different and specific nutrients from their diet. The proportion of these nutrients will vary depending on age, lifestyle, and overall health, so it's not surprising that a growing, energetic kitten needs a different balance of nutrients in her diet than a less active senior cat. Other considerations to bear in mind are feeding the right quantity of food to maintain ideal body condition, following feeding guidelines, and catering to individual preference regarding wet or dry food recipes.

Munchkin cats may not have the flexibility to groom themselves, and other cats do, so they will need some assistance. It is especially true for those with those sporting long coats.
